Pickups in the world. Mercedes-Benz is thankfully doing something about it,
and now German tuning house Startech has created what it’s calling “one
of the world’s most exclusive pickups.” Set to be unveiled at the
Shanghai Motor Show, the Brabus
subsidiary has converted a Range Rover into a pickup, a feat that
required the design and manufacture of more than 100 body pieces. The
interior still sports five seats and Startech insists cabin space has
not been compromised.
The main change is at the back where a new rear
bulkhead with heated tinted rear window has been fitted. The roof has
been shortened and the C-pillars redesigned to accommodate the pickup
bed, but the panoramic sunroof has been retained in full. A whopping 110
cm of loading length is offered with the remote-controlled tailgate
closed, expanding by 60 cm when opened. Startech is quick to assure its
Arab clientele that the pickup bed is ideal “for transporting a securely
fastened cage that holds their falcons for the hunt.” Which is a
relief.
Other mods made to the
Range Rover include a carbon-fiber widebody kit, a set of 23-inch rims, a
suspension module that drops the lux ute by 30 mm, a bespoke twin
exhaust, and an interior restyled using leather, Alcantara and carbon
fiber. Power comes from a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 rated at 526 hp,
which is enough to send the Range Rover pickup from 0-62 mph in 5.3
seconds.
